To support infection prevention and control, we’ve developed a new set of hand hygiene and personal protective equipment (PPE) posters tailored for aged care and childcare settings.
These visual resources are easy to understand, practical, and designed to help staff, residents, children, and visitors stay safe and well.
Each set of posters comes with a downloadable guide to help staff and centre managers understand where and how to use each poster. The guide explains the intended audience – whether it’s staff, children, or families – and the appropriate settings of each poster.
Aged care resources
Aged care homes are environments where infection prevention is vital. Our new posters are designed to support staff and visitors in maintaining best practices when it comes to hand hygiene and PPE use.
Where to use them:
These posters can be placed in high-traffic areas such as staff rooms, entryways, bathrooms, resident care areas, PPE stations, and near sinks and hand sanitiser dispensers. They serve as important reminders for aged care workers, cleaners, and visitors to wash or sanitise hands at key moments and to wear the appropriate PPE when caring for residents.
What they’re used for:
The posters aim to reinforce consistent infection control practices, reduce the risk of transmission, and promote a safe environment for older adults. Visual prompts include when and how to wash or sanitise hands, donning and doffing PPE correctly, and reminders about when PPE is required and advisory alerts for the public of current outbreaks.
Childcare resources
In childcare settings, keeping hands clean and preventing the spread of illness is just as important. Our new posters are kid-friendly, visually engaging, and informative for both educators and families.
This pack includes a range of fun and engaging hand hygiene resources designed especially for children under five. These include hand washing-themed colouring pages, an activity book full of simple learning tasks, and a hand washing licence that educators can award once children have mastered proper hand washing techniques.
Where to use them:
These resources can be displayed near bathroom sinks, food preparation areas, nappy change stations, entrances, and staff areas. They’re also suitable for noticeboards, shared spaces, and entryways where families drop off and pick up their children.
What they’re used for:
Designed to support healthy hygiene habits among children and staff, the posters use simple language and illustrations to encourage regular handwashing. Educators can also use them as part of daily routines and learning activities books to teach children when and why we wash our hands.
Notification instructions for facility staff
If you suspect that a gastrointestinal outbreak is occurring at your facility or premises, you should notify the department and refer to the guide to the management and control of gastroenteritis outbreaks in children’s services centres.
