OONAH’s journey dates back to the 1990s when community conversations in Healesville revealed a need for a “welcoming and culturally affirming place” to serve as a central point of contact for local Aboriginal communities.
Nikki, who has been with OONAH for almost nine years, spoke passionately on the programs, services and upcoming events at OONAH. Nikki’s mother was one of the founding members of Healesville Indigenous Community Services Association (HICSA)-OONAH, and her continued involvement reflects the ongoing commitment to the community.
OONAH offers a range of services including podiatry, optometry, audiology, and pediatrics. OONAH is in the process of introducing new services, including physiotherapy and diabetes education.
In addition to clinical care, OONAH provides support in areas such as chronic disease care, elder care, and mental health. Their outreach services include assistance with NDIS applications, support for members of the Stolen Generations, and counselling and therapeutic services provided by their SEWB (Social and Emotional Wellbeing) and mental health clinicians.
