Research by Cancer Council Victoria has found a shocking 6 out of 10 food ads on government-controlled public transport in Victoria promote junk food.
NEPHU has joined the 10,000 people and over 40 Victorian public health and community organisations that have already signed on to support the campaign.
Young people should be able to travel to and from school without being bombarded by this advertising at every turn.
This advertising has a powerful influence, shaping what our kids eat, want and ask for – and it puts their future health at stake.
As part of the campaign, the Cancer Council is encouraging everyone to take action including writing to your local Member of Parliament, sharing on your social media, uploading photos of junk food ads to the Cancer Council website and more.

The campaign is calling on the Victorian Government to remove the ads from public transport, public transport infrastructure and near schools.
The Cancer Council has created a publicly available stakeholder pack that includes social media assets, newsletter and website content for supporting organisations to use.
The constant food and drink advertising contributes to unhealthy diets, putting children at greater risk of being above a healthy weight. This can continue into adulthood and increase the risk of at least 13 types of cancer and other serious, chronic diseases as adults.
