The Health Yarn on Indigenous health

Listen to all new episodes of The Health Yarn, a partnership between NEPHU and 3KND radio. New episodes out bi-monthly.

The Health Yarn is back!

The Health Yarn is designed to engage, inform, and support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities by addressing public health issues in a culturally relevant and accessible way.

3kool n deadly is Melbourne’s only Indigenous radio station that provides a voice for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, arts, culture and health.

Every 2 months, a new episode is aired that features a relevant speaker from a leading organisation on the health topic. The episode explores each health topic through the First Nations experience, in a culturally safe and open dialogue.

Previously, The Health Yarn has explored a range of topics including Women’s Health, eating disorders, heart and kidney health.

Episode 22: Diphtheria and booster vaccinations

This episode, NEPHU Public Health Doctor, Caire was joined by VACCHO Public Health Advisor, Jenny Royle to have a yarn about Diphtheria and the current outbreak in Australia. The episode explored diphtheria, what it is and a new vaccination booster campaign in Victoria. Dr Claire and Dr Jenny also chatted about other important vaccinations throughout different phases of life including annual winter vaccinations like the flu shot.

Free diphtheria booster vaccinations are available and encouraged among eligible groups at-risk.

The next episode on Social and Emotional Wellbeing with Girraway Ganyi will be aired 11am, Thursday 13th August.
