NEPHN-HP Public Health Clinical Series: STIs

This webinar provided a public health perspective on sexually transmitted infections (STIs) with information to support clinicians to diagnose, test for and prevent STIs.  

The North Eastern Public Health Network – Health Protection Clinical Series webinar on: ‘A public health perspective on STIs was held on 17 March 2026. 

Hosted by NEPHU Director, Dr Annaliese van Dieman, we had presentations from  Public Health Registrar, Dr Danielle Martorana and Epidemiologist, Dr Des Gul. 

 

The webinar was designed to support clinicians to diagnose, test, and prevent STIs among their patients.   

The topics covered included:  

  • Local epidemiology of STIs and their public health impact 
  • Opportunities to reduce local burden of STIs  
  • Prevention including vaccination and screening 
  • NEPHU’s role in STI public health management and assistance with partner notification  
  • A deep dive into syphilis

The NEPHU updates included: 

  • Recent Victorian Chief Health Officer alerts 
  • NEPHU’s Measles Immunisation Program – to promote the uptake of free MMR vaccines for under immunised adult cohorts within the catchment 
  • Changes for the 2026 seasonal influenza vaccine
